Hello dear sisters of rhythm,
Approaching spring blessings!
My heart is so elated in the warm welcoming to gather women for a drumming procession on March 21st in downtown Asheville at Pack Square. This is an opportunity to drum in the name of the Great Mother, as the community blesses and sends off those who will be pilgrimaging from Asheville to Washington D.C. in the Great Mother March.
This is a collaborative event and an opportunity for us to synchronize the pulse of our feet and the womb-heart of our drums, calling forth the vibration of the drum for us to collectively come into coherence as a moving altar in honor of the divine feminine. As we drum, we remember and we honor the feminine life force and the organic templates of creation that the feminine carries.
Throughout herstory, women have played drums in ceremonial and celebratory procession. The drum as a devotional instrument – a way of marking transition, blessing the community, and entering sacred space together. A procession transforms ordinary space into sacred space. When women walk with drums the land is acknowledged and the greater community witnesses the feminine pulse – embodied.
The Great Mother March is "more than a walk—it’s a movement,” says Whitney Freya, founder of the march. “It’s about embodying the strength and wisdom of the feminine energy & Great Mother archetype while creating a new vision of collaboration and unity for our world.”
Embarking from Asheville on March 22nd and landing in Washington D.C. on April 22nd (Earth Day), "The Great Mother March, is a pilgrimage of empowerment, creativity, and transformation. Inspired by the spirit of resilience, unity, and our shared connection with Mother Earth, the Great Mother March will span over 500 miles, traversing physical and spiritual landscapes."
Frame drums, tambourines, medicine drums, djembes, singing bowls, rain sticks are all welcome, whatever your element is within music and rhythm, please bring it! I would be absolutely SO delighted for your presence to join. This a love offering event and direct donations to the event are strongly encouraged. (link above)
If any other women you know might be interested, spread the buzz! The more the merrier so we can ring out as the vibrational hum of the mother mind – hive mind of the divine feminine.

PRACTICE SESSION:
We will gather and practice for the procession likely sometime on Sunday, March 15th (or whenever works best for everyone). We'll gather for about two hours to connect and anchor in the vision and the rhythmic prayer we'll be leading with. It will also be an opportunity to decide on a communal color to wear and decorate our drums with brightly colored ribbons, adding extra flair to our instruments of prayer!
Feel free to reach out with any questions or curiosities and respond to this email if you're feeling a full body YES to this special opportunity of sacred rhythmic celebration within community!
As Layne Redmond, author of “When the Drummers Were Women” said – ‘Keep it simple, keep it precise, and it will be profound.’
